 Birmingham St. George's Day Association

                                                      CONCERT 2007

                     We present another concert in aid of charity which this year which is; Bandywood Families Project  and Luncheon Club at St. Lukes, Kingstanding, and   M.S.Sutton Coldfield    

at Symphony Hall on Saturday 21st April at 12 noon  until 2:30pm with an interval

The tickets are £7 (includes Free Programme) from  March 13th and available from Symphony Hall  online on

or at the box office on 0121 780 3333. 

The Concert will be recorded by BBC WM it will also be transmitted live to the BIG SCREEN in Chamberlain Square at 12 noon. and broadcast by BBC WM on Sunday 22nd from 2:45 - 3:45pm

    As part of the expansion of the Association we are planning other activities around the city on the day:

The opening in  Victoria Square  features from 11am - 5pm
The children of Peterbrook School Birmingham .                                     11.05 - 11.10am

Isambarde a Folk group from Coventry,                                                     11.20 - 12.00pm & 2.15 - 3.55pm

University of Central England fashion show at approx                             12.10 - 12.25pm & and 3.05 - 3.20pm


NationalYouth Folk Troupe of England. 10 - 18 year olds.                      12.35 - 1.15pm  & 4.20 - 5pm    

Rack and Ruin a Folk/Rock style  from Kenilworth/Leamington area.         1.25 - 2.05pm & 3.30 - 4.10pm

 

Traditional English Catering Marquee – Feast on a wide range of great English favourites like Bangers and Mash, Cream Teas, Pastries, Hot Roast Beef or Pork Rolls, also Soups and Hot and Cold Drinks not forgetting Real Ales, English wines and pimms there is
available Picnic style seating  where the public can relax and enjoy their food while taking in the live entertainment.

 

Children’s Entertainment - A 50ft inflatable dragon slide, complete with moving jaws and snorting smoke, will roar in to Victoria Square allowing young daring Knights to climb aboard and slide down it’s tail. A traditional carousel will also be in the square while face painters are on hand to get children in the St George’s Day spirit.

The Birmingham Musuem & Art Gallery 
are doing a fascinating Medieval programme. 1pm - 4pm including;

  • Meet a Medieval soldier and knight (Knight featured on Saturday only)
  • Find out how coins were made with Grunal Moneta
  • Listen to some fabulous music with Diabolus in Musica
  • Watch a Medieval puppet show
  • Partake in some art and craft
  • Dress up in a splendid costume
  • Join a fun handling session and find out more about historic objects (Saturday only)
  • Try your hand at fun puzzles and get creative with colouring-in sheets

 

Birmingham Central Library in partnership with Claire Galleries is hosting The Big Birmingham Vote! Visit the amazing exhibition of original artwork on floor one of the library throughout April, each image taking its inspiration from a well known view of the City Centre.

 

Visitors can join the city’s school children to vote for their favourite image either remotely through the web site at http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/libraries.bcc or through a terminal placed in the exhibition, right up until midday on the 21st April.  At 12noon the voting closes and at 3pm the people's choice of the 'iconic image of Birmingham 2007' will be revealed! Exhibition is open for viewing from April 2nd until the end of the month.

 

Older Than Your Gran! From 10am – 5pm the same day the Central Library is also hosting an intriguing Family Fun Day of eye-opening activities!

 

·         Take the family on a voyage of discovery through some of the library's very own iconic images of England

·         Internationally renowned and priceless historical collections to explore.            

·         Join in English folk tale story sessions

·         Bring the kids in ‘Old England’ fancy dress – prizes for the best!

 

Make it a Family Day out and support your St. George's Day.

Outdoor ActivitiesSunday

Sunday 22nd April 2007 - Centenary Square – 2pm - 5pm  

 

The Scouts Association and the Birmingham Scouts celebrate their 100th year in 2007. The Patron Saint of the Association is St George and as such they will celebrate their centenary and affiliation to St George by parading along Broad Street very significantly to Centenary Square.

 The Parade started from the Five Ways end of Broad Street at 2pm and culminated by the Lord Mayor taking their Salute at 3pm in Centenary Square.

 Some 5000 Scouts will took  a re-affirmation of their promises in Centenary Square in front of a stage positioned in front of Symphony Hall.
